When Last Did You Try Something New?

Hi there,

I’m sure you know the saying, “Curiosity killed the cat”, but do you know the rest of that statement?  It goes like this: "Curiosity killed the cat, but satisfaction brought it back."

That’s what happened to me this past week. On Sunday, I visited Fela’s Shrine in Ikeja, a place that has always sparked my curiosity. I believe life’s all about satisfying that curiosity, so I just had to see what happens there.

I thought it was free, but on Sundays, you have to pay between ₦2,000 and ₦3,000 to watch Femi, Seun, or Made Kuti perform. How was the experience, you ask?

Let me tell you. The air was thick with smoke as dancers in short skirts moved feverishly on stage and in cages, their energy seemingly endless. I couldn’t help but wonder—do they ever get tired, swaying their waists like that for hours?

The band played the most captivating jazz, and Femi Kuti delivered an intense hour-long rant about Nigeria, asking everyone not to record to prevent his words from being taken out of context.

The long rant aside, I had a blast—I had an absolute blast. Sipping on palm wine, savouring goat meat, and enjoying some suya, I knew this was an experience I’d hold onto for a long time.

The weekend is upon us again. Feeling curious? Here are some events where you can satisfy that:
