Can we talk about how April is basically over? We just got here.
It’s a long weekend because it’s Easter, and let me tell you, I have never looked forward to a weekend more than I do right now. Thank you, Jesus.
For me, the laptop is getting shut down, and I’m not thinking about it until at least Monday afternoon. This weekend, we’re staying within budget (shout out to all the free and under ₦10k events), but we’re also seeing some of the season’s biggest, slightly pricier events—Femme Fest, Homecoming, and the like.
Last year’s Homecoming collab with Group Therapy, Sweat It Out, and Element House was one of my favourite parties of 2024, and this year? I. CANNOT. WAIT.
1. Rhythm & Booze: Y2K Edition This one’s for the girls with butterfly clips, and the guys who swore by durags and denim. It’s giving Destiny’s Child, Nokia ringtones, and early 2000s chaos. Come ready to dance, drink, and scream when “Independent Women” comes on.
2. Who is Chisom? Part comedy, part personal journey, this one-man theatre show explores identity, family, and figuring life out in Nigeria. You’ll laugh and reflect. It's a great pick if you want something fun but with depth.
3. South Socials – Easter Edition Think sunset cocktails, fine fits, and soft background music that slowly turns into a full-on dance floor. Praia is doing what Praia does best. This is your Friday reset.
4. Femme Fest: Wonderland A full-on sensory experience for women. It’s music, markets, fashion, and sisterhood turned up.
5. Club in the Park Nature, music, and soft drinks with strong intentions make this the perfect escape from stuffy clubs. Think DJ sets in Ikoyi’s open air, trees swaying in the background, and just enough chaos to feel alive. Bring a blanket and your dancing shoes.
6. Traditional Drumming, Singing & Dancing Live drumming, indigenous sounds, and the kind of performance that reminds you that African rhythm is undefeated. Great for families or a date with someone who loves roots and soul.
7. Pop-Up Sales Party w/ Hayya & Debby Peperenpe Shopping + drinks + pretty people = your new Saturday ritual. Great discounts, great vibes, and a chance to shop pieces you won’t find just anywhere.
8. A Trip to Toronto This is a party that’s repping Toronto but sounds like Lagos. There are afro-fusion beats, a chilled crowd, and a few “Oh, you came too?” moments. It has a small crowd but big energy.
9. The Boho Nest This one’s all about good energy, creative folks, and a gorgeous space to exist. It's part marketplace, part music, and part self-care session. Bring your tote bag and a calm spirit.
10. Lagos Freedom Festival
It’s affordable, it’s chaotic, and it’s giving everybody pull up. Live music, local vendors, and that “we’re outside” feeling on a budget. Expect big crowds and even bigger vibes.
11. Fire & Sand: Easter Edition A Surulere crowd-pleaser. Fire pits, beach-inspired decor, and music that keeps things moving. Come ready to sweat, sip, and possibly link someone cute.
12. Movie in the Park: All White Edition Grab a blanket, bring a bottle, and catch a movie under the stars. The vibes are romantic, the crowd is curated, and the setting is Lagos soft life at its finest.
13. Homecoming Live Music Show The pinnacle of alté culture. This isn’t just a concert; it’s a cultural moment. If you’ve never been to Homecoming, this is the year to stop playing.
14. Shots n’ Bikinis: Easter Edition You’ll need to pray about Bikini bodies, bold cocktails, and maybe a few decisions. The official pool party of people who came to misbehave responsibly.
Not In Lagos? Check These Out
1. SLC Creatives Open Mic For our Abuja fam, this is the creative haven you’ve been looking for. Music, poetry, stories; it’s raw, real, and refreshing. The kind of night that reminds you why community matters.
2. 420 Music Fest If you’re in Owerri, the chill crew is posted here. It's a celebration of mellow music, laid-back vibes, and everything green-friendly. Come as you are and leave lighter than you arrived.
3. Gifted Hands 25 A pop-up-style gallery and market celebrating creativity and handmade design. Whether you’re window-shopping or looking for your next favourite thing, the kind of Saturday fills your brain and your bag.
4. Ibadan Food Connect Foodies, pull up. This local food festival has authentic flavour—street eats, home-style meals, and food vendors who understand the assignment.
5. Easter Lake Party Abuja Paddle boats, open skies, and music you can hear across the water. Abuja knows how to soft life, and this lakeside day party proves it.
6. All White Party [Easter Edition] Clean fits, cool drinks, and a dancefloor await your slow whine. Abuja knows how to party with class. This one’s all white, all fun, and all vibes.
That’s the lineup, and honestly? If you’re balling on a budget, you’re covered. If you’re ready to splurge a little for a good time (hi, Femme Fest and Homecoming), also covered.
Either way, don’t let this long weekend pass you by. April’s already running off—might as well catch a vibe while you still can.
